Dear Fellow Surfer
Have you noticed that since you
started
surfing in Traffic Exchange, Safelists, and/or Text Ad Exchange
programs your computer became slower?
I know I had.
4
years ago when I started with traffic exchanges my computer became
like an old turtle walking on the desert sand. It was being bombarded
with all sorts of viruses and spyware from websites of other users.
If you have been long enough, you might have been annoyed by
the PTP (paid to promote) sites that load hundreds of iframes and
slow down the browser to the extent that the computer crashes before
finishing the count down.
And I was using Norton Antivirus at
that time. Still, some Trojan managed to infect my PC more than once.
Because of these problems that accumulate with surfing I
found myself formatting my PC almost once every month.
I
could've just given up traffic exchange surfing altogether, but I was
making money with it.
I had to find a solution so that I
could keep surfing and at the same time minimize or even eliminate
the security and technical problems that accompanied my
surfing.
Luckily, I am not a big fan of Windows, so I switched
to a small Linux distribution called DSL (Damn Small Linux) only
during the surfing sessions.
That's my secret. I could quickly
and safely build up traffic credit without slowing down my system or
compromising my PC security.
I know Linux is not an option
for every body, so I listed below some options so that you can still
use Windows and minimize the harmful effect of surfing on your
computer.
1. Safe Practices:
First of all you need to learn some surfing habits so that you minimize
the surfing hazardous effects on your PC performance and security. Here
is a list of them:
- Don't surf more than 7 traffic exchanges at the same time.
- Always clean your cookies, history, temporary Internet
files, and the browser cash after each surfing session.
- Never use Internet explorer in surfing for security issues.
Global Mojo
(built on FireFox) is one of the best browsers for this purpose. It
blocks some of the bad websites and warns you from visiting them.
- Always have an antivirus installed on your PC. f you are
using an original Windows 7 or Vista, you can download Microsoft
Security Essentials and install it. It's free and is doing great so
far. If not, click here to pick
one.
- Set up a different account with limited privileges just for
surfing.
- Always perform maintenance for your PC. That includes
cleaning the hard disk, checking it for errors, defragmenting it, and
cleaning the registry errors. If you're not sure whether your PC needs
registry cleaning or not
- you can do a free registry errors scan here.
- If you have Windows Vista or 7, you can use the parental
control option in the control panel to block the websites that you
suspect could be harmful to your PC. So you can surf without visiting
the bad sites. If not, you can download a parental control software here.
- Never accept the downloads that force themselves on you.
- Never open your paypal or alertpay accounts while surfing.
Preferably
never
open them from the same Windows account that you use
for surfing.
2. Use Linux for Surfing
I know this is not an option for everyone, but really you might want to
consider it. Linux is safe as there is such a thing as a virus or
spyware for Linux so far. If you don't want to give up Windows that's
fine. You still can dual-boot your machine or use a live Linux CD just
for surfing.
Linux is not that different from Windows in terms of ease of use. All
what you need to do is to learn where every thing is and the new names
of the places.
Besides safety, Linux is way more stable than any Windows version so
far.
For quick live browsing burn
DSL on a CD and use it to
boot your PC, then use it as it is. You don't need to install it on
your computer.
If you want to take it to the next level, then consider
Ubuntu
and
Mandriva. They both come with an
excellent bundle of software that replaces thousands of dollars worth
of Windows software (like office and such).
Banks and NASA are using Linux, and IBM now only produces machines with
RedHat Linux installed on them, and that's for a good reason. So, why
settle for Windows if you can get the best for FREE!

3. Hi, I am a Mac ...
If you live in North America you must have been exposed to that
hilarious series of adverts for Mac that compares it's power with the
uselessness of PC. If not, you can watch some of them
here.
I myself am not a Mac person, or PC ... I am a Linux, which works on
both. But if you don't want to invest a few hours learning Linux, and
you feel it's too much to invest in software that makes you able to use
your PC efficiently and safely, then Mac is the solution.
