Dear Clickers for Traffic

Traffic Exchanges, Safe lists, and Text Ads are just tiny fishes in the ocean of free advertising resources on the internet. If you are tracking your results you'll see that you are getting tons of traffic, but with a very poor conversion. Getting 10,000 hits every day should generate at least 100 new sign ups, sales, leads or whatever you are trying to get ... is that what you are getting?

I have been using safe lists and traffic exchange programs for more than 3 years now, but I hadn't seen any serious money until Nov. 2007 when I figured out how to convert my hits into cash. But that's another story for another day. Only then I started to track my website hits and compare traffic sources regarding the quality of the hits.

And here comes the bad news:

I was getting the poorest results

Let me explain by numbers: In order to get 5 conversions/day, which meant $10 /day back then, I had to surf traffic exchange programs and click credit links in safe list emails for 5-7 hours every day. This means that I was making less than $2 per hour, which is far below the minimum wage if I had worked at any store bagging groceries.

Imagine yourself with a website that is making you money, but you have to click and click and click for long hours every day to get people to notice your website and make you money. How frustrating would that be?

Even with tweaks and changes in the landing pages to get people to notice me, I still wasn't making the equivalent of the minimum wage in my province in terms of hours of work vs. earned money.

I had no option but working it out

Because of recent injury and health complications I am semi-handicapped. And although I got the best education anyone could hope for, the gap this injury had on my resume made it harder for me to get a job. Besides, most of the good jobs in my field require travelling for interviews, which is really hard in my case.

I looked at my family then at my website and said to myself:

This thing is making me money. I only need to get more people to see it. I owe it to my family, and to myself, to get this thing working for me. I need to learn how to drag more traffic to my site.

And I did

Yes, I did get more traffic to my site. I've spent some of my credit building downline in the traffic generating programs that require clicking until I was getting enough from my downline to get more and more traffic without clicking as many hours as I used to do.

But that was not the answer

You see, I was getting the same quality of traffic to see my sites. When I combine my clicking with my down line credit I was getting tons of visitors to my sites. Even better, some of my referrals were helping me by assigning some of their credits to advertise for me.

Even though I was getting that much traffic, the conversion was still low, and the money I was making wasn't enough to pay the rent or put food on the table for my family. Even with changing my headlines, backgrounds, and the whole copy the conversion wasn't dramatically increasing.

That was when I realized the truth

This source of traffic is not the best I could get to see my sites. I was reading about conversions rates ranging from 1-8%. There should be another way to get a better traffic in terms of conversion.

Paid traffic was not an option

With this amount of money I was making there was no place for paid traffic in my budget. I had to figure out a way to make it work for me for free.

At that point I realized that I have to invest sometime reading more about traffic generation techniques. I downloaded all of the free ebooks and courses about traffic, and bought some of the $10 and under ebooks that could fill in the gaps the free ones left behind.

After learning some new techniques I started to apply them and generated some traffic to my sites. And because I understand the importance of tracking I was able to compare the conversion of the new sources vs. my old method of clicking for traffic.

And that was my "Ahha" moment

I realized that although the new sources of traffic are generating me far less numbers of visits to my sites, the conversion was dramatically higher. I reached 40% conversion rate from some sources. I couldn't believe myself. I was wasting my time on clicking and clicking and clicking my life away while these sources of free traffic were just a few ebooks away from me to reach.

And I decided to share it with the world

Time IS life. Your life is measured in years, days, and minutes. When you spend an hour clicking for traffic that get's you two bucks or less, this is the worst return on investment of the most precious asset you have: your life.

Although you still can make money with your clicking, you can add a lot of more money to your revenue if you consider other sources of free traffic that require a bit more than just clicking.
